What do you look for?

Websters defines community as: a unified body of individuals.

People with common interests living in a particular area; a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society; and a body of persons of common and especially professional interests scattered through a larger society.

Isn’t social media this very thing? Cultivating a network of individuals to connect, support, share, and inspire change?

A popular theory is that social media alienates and fosters negativity. This can certainly be true. So what are you going to do about it?

Continue complaining about all the negativity and personas with shiny perfect veneers? Spread more hate and false fronts? If so, the community created will be more of the same. Negativity and vitriol.

I would rather fight it with positivity. Vulnerability. Show the real me with all my faults and failures as well as the joys of my highlight reel.

I believe we all find what we look for in the world. I look for love and joy and connection and change. My community is filled with incredible people doing amazing things. Whether its as simple as sharing their love for a family member or as big as changing the world.

It’s good and its big and it’s what I look for, therefore it’s what I see.
